The Ipswich Music, Art & Drama Association, Inc.hereinafter referred to as IMADA) is a volunteer organization consisting primarily of the parents and/or guardians of the Ipswich, Massachusetts Public Middle and Ipswich, Massachusetts Public High School students who participate in curricular or extra-curricular activities in the fine arts disciplines of music, art and/or drama. Membership in IMADA is also open to any and all community members who support the arts in the public schools. Our Mission as IMADA is to enhance and support the performing and visual arts experience at the Ipswich Middle & High Schools.  

Originally formed in the mid- to late 1970's as the Ipswich Band Parents Association, the organization operated as a school booster club to raise money and help support the band program. By 1987 the organization had come to be known as the Ipswich Music Association to acknowledge its support for the addition of both a string orchestra and choral program in the schools. In 1991 the organization changed its name to the Ipswich Music, Art & Drama Association and widened its scope as a booster for all of the arts programs offered in the Ipswich Middle and High Schools. Though no change was ever made to the original Ipswich Band Parents organizing document to reflect the various name changes, in June 1992 the booster club opened a new bank account using the name Ipswich Music, Art & Drama Association. All during this time the organization operated as a school booster club awarding college scholarships to graduating Ipswich High School seniors. Between 1992 and 2010, IMADA has awarded $72,050 in college scholarships.

In 2005 IMADA redefined its mission and expanded its role to not only fund scholarships and summer study grants, but also fine arts equipment and programs not covered in the school budget. In the fall of 2005, IMADA held its first fall fundraiser concert/event and the profits enabled it to re-instate the Middle School Drama Program. Since that time, IMADA has contributed more than $200,000 to the fine arts programs in the Ipswich Middle and High Schools. 

On June 9, 2006 the organization incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in order to be eligible to carry on fundraising activities not permitted as a school club in Massachusetts. This enabled the organization to utilize other funding sources including applying for certain grants from private foundations and state agencies as well as holding raffles. On April 20, 2007 IMADA received its Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) status from the IRS and is classified as a non-profit, tax exempt Public Charity. Contributions to IMADA are deductible under Section 170 of the Code.

The principal activities of the organization are to support the Ipswich Middle & High Schools' Fine Arts Department with volunteer assistance, to raise funds for scholarships and summer study grants, and to supplement the school budget by purchasing materials or funding extra-curricular programs in the fine arts beyond those budgeted by the Ipswich School Committee and funded by the Town of Ipswich and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
